According to An expert relationship coach, those who kneel before their lovers during proposals are only emulating the Western culture.

She argued that real African men don’t kneel before their women, no matter the occasion.

Kneeling by women before men and older women is a common practice across the African continent and is considered a sign of respect. This can be done in greeting, serving food and many other occasions.

The executive director of Oxfam International, recently sparked a fierce debate on Twitter about the practice.

He tweeted:

“My Neighbour kneels down to greet me. I told her not to kneel but she insists that a young woman must show respect while kneeling to greet older people and men. I don’t agree. Boys don’t kneel. How do we stop this humiliating practice?”

Africans by nature is men chauvinistic thus frown when a man for whatever reason kneel down for a woman. It is not the African man’s way.
